What Our Clients Say About Us
FAQ
What does refinancing my home loan actually mean?
Refinancing means moving your existing mortgage to a new lender, or restructuring it with your current bank, to get a better deal. People refinance to secure a lower interest rate, access a cashback offer, consolidate debt, release equity for renovations or investment, or get a loan structure that better suits their situation.
Will I have to pay fees to refinance?
There can be costs, but they’re often outweighed by the savings. Common costs include break fees if you leave a fixed-rate term early, discharge fees from your current lender, legal fees, and in some cases a valuation. Many lenders offer cashback or contributions toward legal costs to offset these. We’ll run the numbers with you so you can see whether refinancing makes sense before you commit.
What happens if I'm still within a fixed-rate term?
You can still refinance, but your current lender may charge a break fee, particularly if interest rates have dropped since you fixed. Sometimes it’s worth paying, and sometimes it’s better to wait until your fixed term ends. We can request a break fee quote from your bank and help you compare the options.
If I received a cashback when I took out my loan, will I have to pay it back?
Possibly. Most banks require you to repay some or all of a cashback if you move your lending within a set period, often three to four years. We’ll check the terms of your current loan agreement so there are no surprises.
Why use a mortgage adviser instead of going straight to another bank?
A mortgage adviser compares options across multiple lenders, not just one, and can negotiate on your behalf. We handle the paperwork, liaise with lenders and lawyers, and make sure the new loan structure fits your goals. Our service is usually free for you, as we’re typically paid a commission by the lender, and we’ll always disclose how we’re paid.
